BMD has been selected by Perth Airport (PAPL), as part of the SkyWay Joint Venture alongside CPB Contractors, to construct its new runway.

The most important piece of aviation infrastructure being built in Western Australia, the project involves construction of a new three-kilometre and 45-metre-wide runway, a critical step forward in Perth Airport’s $5 billion transformation which will create greater passenger capacity and operational efficiency.

BMD Chief Executive Officer Scott Power said this once in a century project brings the SkyWay team back together, having delivered the new runway at Brisbane Airport in 2020.

"BMD is an industry leader in aviation infrastructure, delivering full-scope civil works across major airports for decades. We are experienced in executing complex projects to the highest standard, maintaining safe and seamless operations.

“Together with Perth Airport and CPB Contractors, we’re building on our decade long relationships in Western Australia to create enduring infrastructure that will bolster local economies, create jobs and supply chain opportunities, and leave a legacy of resilience and community value.”

The enabling and landside airfield scope of works includes:

  • Demolition of existing buildings and pavements on the site, including Grogan Road
  • Diversion of existing utilities and storm water drains
  • Ground preparation and earthworks including the placement of more than one million cubic metres of fill material
  • Perimeter security fencing, security systems and access gates
  • Airfield perimeter, emergency and facility access roads
  • Airfield pavements – runway, taxiway, shoulder and jet blast areas
  • Airfield Ground Lighting (AGL), Movement Area Guidance Signs (MAGS) and pavement marking
  • LV and communications systems and electrical equipment rooms
  • Airfield drainage and landscaping.

The project’s completion is expected in 2028.
